Meet Emili, our featured Wish Ambassador of July. A creative and kind-hearted local teen, who wished to see the cherry blossoms in Japan.
“It was something that came straight out of a dream, I couldn’t have asked for a better wish honestly,” said Emili.
For Emili, this momentous trip abroad was a long time coming.
The teen was battling leukemia, and a week before she was originally scheduled to travel, doctors said she wasn’t healthy enough to fly.
Timing was everything on this wish, which made the news that much harder for Emili to hear. It would be a full year before the cherry blossoms would bloom again.
“Sometimes I’m like ‘oh why me,’ but you get over it and you grow to accept it and personally I think having leukemia made me stronger,” she added.
The thought of one day standing under a cherry-pink sky motivated Emili to fight harder.
“The trip gave me something to look forward to, it was sort of like a light at the end of the tunnel,” she added.
