Fourteen-year-old Madeline’s wish came true when she and her family went to Hawaii in May. Her mom, Andrea, recently shared her perspective on Madeline’s wish on their Caring Bridge site.
“Madeline’s Make-A-Wish® adventure in Hawaii was FANTASTIC. Madeline’s Wish Granters, Laila and Robyn, arranged such a memorable week for Madeline and our family. The sun, scenery, warm water, and so many gracious and welcoming souls made our time in Hawaii such a pleasant experience amidst all of the cancer chaos.
The timing was great as Madeline was feeling strong the entire week. The greatest memories include: the limousine rides to and from the airport; a happy send-off by her United Healthcare trip sponsors; thoughtful Alaska Airlines flight attendants; a fabulous suite at the Fairmont Orchid and all of the thoughtful ways the Fairmont staff made Madeline feel like a rock star; an excellent Body Glove snorkel tour with sea turtles and spinner dolphins; a horseback riding adventure in the lush hills of Hawaii that had Madeline smiling from start to finish, while Beth humorously struggled with her hungry, pokey horse; and all of the time we got to spend together touring, snorkeling, dining with our feet in the sand, and applying layers and layers of sunscreen.
We feel so lucky and grateful to have had this Make-A-Wish experience with Madeline. She was treated to all of her favorite things, and spoiled grandly. We returned on Sunday, just in time to prepare for scan day on Monday…we’re back to reality, but are buoyed by great memories and the incredible support that we’ve been blessed with over the past few weeks.”
