Ways to Volunteer

Volunteers assist Make-A-Wish® Oregon in many ways. What do our volunteers do? …EVERYTHING!

Make-A-Wish volunteers wear many hats - one to fit any skill or interest.  In order to continually grant the most memorable wishes, we need caring people to join our team.

Become a Wish Granter

Wish granters work directly with the children and their families to determine the child’s one true wish and then play an instrumental role in helping to plan, create, and fulfill the child’s wish. These trained volunteers make the wish an unforgettable experience through their attention to detail and imagination. Wish granters volunteer their time around their own schedule.

Requirements: Wish granters must be at least 21 years old, complete a volunteer application, background check, and a wish granter training session.

Assist at an Event

Our chapter is involved in a variety of events throughout the year that raise money to support wishes. Events include auctions, radiothons, golf tournaments, cars shows, Kids For Wish Kids® fundraisers, walks, and much more! Day-of-event activities range from staffing tables, registration, auction support and answering questions. Volunteers get the flexibility to select which events are of interest to them.

Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old , complete a volunteer application, a volunteer orientation and a background check.

Provide Office Support

Periodically, we need of volunteers to assist with office duties, administrative tasks, and special projects.  It can be a one-time task or we can set up a steady schedule.  Sometimes, the volunteer will work with one specific employee.

Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old , complete a volunteer application, a volunteer orientation and a background check.

Provide Translation Services

Some wish children and their families request assistance in their native language to understand the process of a wish. We also need help in the office translating documents. Our most common need is for Spanish-speaking volunteers.

Apply for an Internship

Internships provide college students with hands-on learning opportunities. Students interested in a career in the non-profit sector will find a wealth of experience. Internships are available in our Portland chapter office year-round.

For more information about our internship program and how to apply, please visit the Employment & Internships section of our website.
