When Make-A-Wish® Oregon called upon superheroes, more than 550 answered. They assembled for the 8th annual Walk For Wishes event, a family-friendly 5K walk that took place at the beautiful Riverfront Park in Salem.
Participants dressed in a hero costume to celebrate our Wish Heroes - kids who are battling serious illnesses – kids who are real life heroes.
More than 30 Wish Heroes joined the walk from all over Oregon and Southwest Washington - from Wonder Girl Kirra and Captain Josiah to Super Princess Ellerie and Spider-Kid Travis. They are some of the more than 3,100 wish kids served by Make-A-Wish Oregon, whose strength and bravery inspired so many to come out on this day.
“What a great event! Every kid with a life-threatening illness deserves a wish,” said Summar, whose five-year-old daughter’s wish to go to Walt Disney World® Resort was granted two years ago.
In addition to honoring local wish kids, the event raised more than $72,000 to help Make-A-Wish Oregon reach the goal of granting 205 wishes this year. Local wish families that took part in the walk say it’s a way for them to help other kids. “We can never thank Make-A-Wish enough for all they did for Ragen, so we work hard to pay it forward and give back,” said Christi. Make-A-Wish Oregon granted her 14-year-old daughter’s wish to meet the cast of her favorite TV show in 2013.
A special thanks to Walk For Wishes 2015 top sponsors Pietro’s Pizza, Walgreens and Mountain West Investment Corporation for making the event possible, and to KPTV’s Kaitlyn Bolduc for lending her talents as the emcee.
