The 6th annual KATU Miles for Smiles telethon, in conjunction with the chapter’s Wishes in Flight® program, raised more than 7.2 million airline miles in August. About 75% of wishes in Oregon and SW Washington require air travel, so these miles will directly help send local children with life-threatening medical conditions to their dream destinations.
More than a dozen wish families, volunteers and supporters shared their inspirational stories at the annual telethon hosted by KATU (Channel 2) in Portland. Families talked about how their wish experience has impacted their lives by giving them hope and a sense of normalcy.
Many more local children are waiting right now to go on their wishes to places such as Vatican City, the Caribbean, Maui, concerts and special sporting events. Donating airline miles is a simple, yet meaningful way to help grant the wish of a child. Once donated, the airline miles don’t expire.
